The Domestic Worker Movement Thanks Nancy Pelosi for her Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Domestic Workers Alliance, the leading voice for dignity and fairness for the 2.5 million domestic workers in the U.S. – home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners, most of whom are women of color –  thank Nancy Pelosi for her leadership over the years, as she has played a vital role in the domestic worker movement. The National Domestic Workers Alliance issued the following statement today:

“Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a trailblazer in every way.  As the first and only woman to serve as  Speaker of the House, she has consistently stood up for women and pushed for legislation that makes life better for working families. In 2010, Speaker Pelosi paved the way for the passage of the Affordable Care Act, which now stands as a pillar of health and financial security for so many. Most recently, her work to pass the American Rescue Plan, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act has shown her commitment to delivering for the American people. Throughout her time as a Congressional leader, Speaker Pelosi has supported policies that would uplift caregivers, domestic workers, and our families.” said Ai-jen Poo, President of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.

“We are especially thankful to Speaker Pelosi for her ongoing support of investing in the care infrastructure and creating good-paying, union care jobs. Most recently, she stood with us in support of passing the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act. And we remain eager to witness her continued impact on our nation’s history. We thank Speaker Pelosi for her work in shaping a stronger future for women – especially women of color – and families; it has made all the difference. Women are the future of our democracy. And women have always been on the front lines of protecting and expanding our democracy. Speaker Pelosi’s legacy is a powerful example. We look forward to continuing our work with congressional leaders, future trailblazers, and communities so our caregivers, domestic workers, and our democracy can thrive.”
