Olga Segura is a Mexican producer, director, and activist. She produced The Truth About Emanuel, written and directed by Francesca Gregorini; the film premiered at Sundance 2013 in the US Dramatic Competition. Segura also developed and produced The Dinner, adapted and directed by Oscar-nominated Oren Moverman from the worldwide best-selling novel by Herman Koch starring Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney, and Rebecca Hall. It was one of the films in Competition at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival.
Her last film, Waiting for the Barbarians, was based on the novel written by Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee; it was directed by Oscar-nominated Ciro Guerra, starring Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Gana Bayarshaikhan, Johnny Depp, and Robert Pattinson. The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2019.
She is currently co-directing a documentary based on the 3-time Latin Grammy winner singer and composer Carla Morrison. Additionally, she is producing, writing, and directing her first animated short film, “ELEFANTAS.”
Segura, along with her partner Monica Ramirez, founded The Latinx House, a platform for people who appreciate and support the excellence of the Latinx community. She recently created the ADELANTE Directors Fellowship with the Sundance Institute, Netflix, and Shondaland to support the development of emerging female and non-gender binary Latinx
directors.
Segura is also passionate about amplifying other women through her digital content series, Decididas. Using her experience as a storyteller, Segura founded the series as a way to highlight inspiring women. Along with Eva Longoria and America Ferrera, she co-founded Poderistas, the largest platform designed to empower and celebrate the next generation of
Latinas.
For her efforts as a prominent voice within the Latinx community, Segura was named to Forbes Mexico’s 100 Most Powerful Women of 2019.
