Dorothy Bolden Fellow / We Dream in Black Organizer
Shechel Williams is a family caregiver and skilled organizer with the National Domestic Workers Alliance and its We Dream in Black program. During the 2018 Midterm Elections, Shechel was the canvassing field lead for Care in Action, one of the largest grassroots programs reaching women of color voters in the state of Georgia. She also actively canvassed South Florida during the 2016 presidential election. Shechel is an impassioned advocate for access to health care and care workers’ rights, having appeared on CNN, and in print outlets like HuffPost, BBC America, Politico, New York Times and the Guardian. As a Dorothy Bolden Fellow, Shechel has focused on digital organizing, know your rights and other programming to build up the base of Black domestic workers engaged in We Dream in Black, and continued growth of the NDWA-We Dream in Black Georgia Chapter.
