National Domestic Workers Alliance and Care In Action: “This is a once in a generation opportunity for leaders in Congress to support real, lasting immigration protections”

Jess Morales Rocketto, Families Belong Together Chair and National Domestic Workers Alliance Director of Civic Engagement, released the following statement:

“Right now we are at a crucial crossroads where immigration protections and benefits are a must to Build Back Better. This is a once in a generation opportunity for leaders in Congress to support real, lasting immigration protections.

“The Build Back Better agenda will move us forward in providing long term protections from deportations, work permits, and access to essential benefits our communities have long awaited. We will never stop fighting for permanent protections and citizenship for millions and the inclusion of immigration in reconciliation is absolutely essential in making that happen.”

Ai-jen Poo, Co-founder and Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, released the following statement in response:

“Congress has the opportunity to deliver real and lasting protection for the thousands of immigrant families, caretakers, house cleaners, and homeworkers who are the backbone of this economy this year. Many have risked their lives to keep our communities safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Women of color voted because our communities, including the millions of essential workers who take care of our loved ones and put food on our tables every day, need relief. It’s time for Congress to deliver solutions, like work permits and access to life-saving healthcare, that provide critical protection and will strengthen our economic recovery. We have a chance to make transformational change, we cannot stop now.”
