Position Summary: 

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation’s leading voice for 2.2 million domestic workers who work as nannies, home care workers, and cleaners in private homes. Powered by 60+ affiliates, chapters, and individual workers across the country, NDWA organizes domestic workers to raise industry standards and guarantee workplace rights and dignity by waging policy (legislative and administrative) campaigns at the municipal, state and federal level and elevating domestic workers as key leaders in building a powerful movement for racial, economic and gender justice. 

NDWA also leads the Families Belong Together (FBT) coalition of over nearly 250 organizations representing Americans from all backgrounds who have joined together to fight family separation and promote dignity, unity, and compassion for all children and families.  

The Director of Immigration Policy will be responsible for managing NDWA and FBT federal and state policy work related to immigration and human-trafficking and developing an affirmative policy agenda that centers immigrant and migrant women, workers, children, and families.

  • Identify, develop and implement legislative and administrative agenda and strategies at the federal level to protect immigrant and migrant workers and families with a focus on addressing the needs of women, children, and families. 
  • Analyze federal, state, and local immigration-related legislation, proposed rules and guidance, and litigation, including drafting appropriate responses in the form of testimony, comments, letters, and amicus briefs.
  • Develop and lead strategies for oversight of government action in immigration areas, including immigration enforcement, detention, and asylum.  
  • Research and draft policy and research briefs for diverse audiences to advance NDWA and FBT’s immigration policy agenda and priorities. 
  • Serve as NDWA and FBT expert and spokesperson on immigration-related legislation and litigation. 
  • Advise and support FBT campaigns and mobilizations on family separation, detention and immigration enforcement.   
  • Participate and assume strategic leadership roles in national coalitions, partnerships and other collaborative efforts.
Job Requirements: 
  • JD required
  • 5-7 years experience in immigration policy at the federal, state and/or local level.  
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to immigration reform, racial justice, gender equity and worker rights.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with coalitions and policy makers and community members.
  • Ability to organize time, manage up, work independently, as well as follow direction, collaborate, coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
