Position Summary: 

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (www.domesticworkers.org) organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition and labor standards. We work to guarantee labor protections for domestic workers by winning legislation at the state level, pushing for regulatory changes at the national level, through the International Labor Organization at the global level, and elevating domestic workers as key leaders in building a powerful movement for social and global justice. The Alliance formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum and currently represents 60+ affiliates in 19 states nationally.

NDWA seeks an entrepreneurial, creative, and relationship-driven Donor Relations Manager to serve as a member of the Development Team to implement the overall fundraising plan, ensuring that NDWA meets its annual goals and develops a strong financial base for the future. This person will serve a key role in growing and sustaining meaningful relationships with mid-level donors contributing above $500 and less than $5,000 annually, and have an opportunity to learn about all aspects of our fundraising while helping to adapt and build systems to meet evolving needs, and work in an exceptionally mission-driven environment. The Donor Relations Manager’s key responsibilities will include the management of the mid-level donor relationships, implementation of a year-round engagement plan and solicitation strategy, and support for the overall individual giving program.


Donor Engagement and Stewardship

  • Act as primary point of connection with individual donors and prospects through personal, on and offline engagement
  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors (mid-level giving), coordinating all communication, cultivation, stewardship and recognition of portfolio managed donors
  • Regularly monitor the impact of donor engagement activities, make adjustments and refinements throughout the year to ensure year-end targets are met

Prospecting and Solicitation

  • In coordination with the Development Team, develop pipeline to move mid-level donors into the organization’s overall major donor portfolio and a system for assigning portfolios of current and prospective major donors to senior staff
  • Conduct research on any prospects in pipeline, and creating tailored plans for donors and prospects
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual individual giving program that could include direct mail, digital fundraising, honor and memorial gifts, peer-to-peer, online giving days, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and other work place and/or matching gift programs, and emerging platforms
  • Coordinate our multichannel EOY fundraising campaign, in collaboration with others on the Development, Communications and Digital teams
  • Make personal asks of mid-level donors, and create acquisition, lapsed donor, renewal series, and additional gift appeals, as needed.
  • Support NDWA affiliate fundraising efforts


  • Maintain the fundraising and stewardship calendar, and ensure that donor contact information, gifts, and interactions are properly processed and recorded in Salesforce
  • Reconcile contributions from individual donors and update projections and contribute to month end close reconciliations, fiscal year audit processes, and financial updates for the spring and fall Board of Directors’ meetings
  • Collaborate with the Development Associate and Tech Director to lead technological upgrades to drive prospect research and donor cultivation and stewardship efforts
  • Work closely with all vendors to ensure timely execution and delivery of both ongoing and seasonal mailings/campaigns
  • Develop budgets and monitor expenses related to the individual giving program
  • Help foster a culture of philanthropy among staff
  • Participate in other activities as needed, especially organization-wide activities such as retreats, monthly meetings and staff study
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements: 
  • At least 3 years previous employment experience in nonprofit development
  • Experience preferred in supporting the management of an individual donor program, including: cultivating donor relationships, organizing events, and implementing other forms of engagement
  • Demonstrated success identifying, cultivating, securing, and growing a network of mid-level donors with evidence of securing gifts of $500 and greater
  • Proven success in developing and implementing appeals through both traditional and emerging methodologies
  • Ability to prepare effective messages for donors, including the use of electronic communications
  • Agreement and alignment with NDWA’s vision and values
  • Knowledge of nonprofit organizations and development systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
