Position Summary: 

Families Belong Together, a campaign of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, is a coalition that includes nearly 250 organizations representing Americans from all backgrounds who have joined together to fight family separation and promote dignity, unity, and compassion for all. Together we have raised millions of dollars for immigrant children and families, mobilized hundreds of thousands of people in all 50 states to take action, and helped to reunite thousands of families. We are working to permanently end family separation and detention, seek accountability for the harm that’s been done, and immediately reunite all families who remain torn apart. 

Position Summary

  • Families Belong Together seeks a Rapid Response Manager. Reporting to the Co-Director, the Rapid Response Manager should be strategic, data-driven, and familiar with the immigrant rights movement. The ideal candidate will have traditional and digital communications experience, strong writing skills, and the ability to manage many deadlines and projects at once. 
Responsibilities: 
  • Management
    • Expand the communications team through hiring and management of a junior staffer
    • Manage relationship with a strategic communications firm; determine strategy to best leverage their skills 
    • Oversee ongoing message and narrative development 
  • Rapid Response 
    • Rapidly respond to breaking news on family separation, camp conditions, immigration, asylum, ICE raids, and migration with the goal of keeping family separation in the public eye 
    • Strategically respond to breaking news; write and disseminate statements in English and Spanish 
  • Proactive Flacking 
    • Leverage earned media in support of FBT’s goals 
    • Build and manage the FBT press list; pitch reporters; create and maintain press relationships  
    • Identify and pitch earned media opportunities; place op-eds and LTEs 
    • Work with a strategic communications firm to identify broadcast, print, and podcast opportunities for the chairwomen 
    • Highlight wins 
  • Coalition and partner work 
    • Forge relationships with other coalition communications staffers; participate in weekly movement communications calls 
    • Provide communications support to coalition members when appropriate 
Job Requirements: 

 

  • 6-8 years of experience on campaigns, progressive causes, or journalism 
  • Excellent strategic communications skills, including the demonstrated ability to drive communications initiatives
  • Excellent writing, editing, and copy editing skills 
  • Familiarity with the national organizing landscape in immigration and one or more of the following areas: gender, racial justice, Latin American politics, and/or asylum.
  • Management experience 
  • Ability to work independently, in partnership with leadership in a rapidly growing organization 
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast paced environment where priorities shift depending on the news cycle; excellent prioritization skills are a must 
  • Agreement and alignment with NDWA and FBT’s vision and values
  • Ability to travel at least four times per year for staff-wide and department-wide retreats

  • Bilingual English/Spanish speakers, with the ability to write, edit and converse in both languages
